The Axedale Store sells groceries, sandwiches, pies and pasties, hamburgers and other food, newspapers and magazines. Petroleum and gas supplies are also available.
	For many years an old bluestone building housed this store but suffered so badly from rising damp that renovation was not possible. The fine new timber store shown here is combined with a residence, a sensible arrangement common in rural and urban Australia many years ago.
	With its many different functions the general store is a busy meeting place for locals. Because the store is located on the McIvor Highway which leads both to Melbourne and to Bendigo, it is also a popular stopping point for motorists.
